NRF 2012 Show Recap!

January 30, 2012

First impressions on NRF 2012: that was a busy show! Hopefully the traffic and interest translates to good things for retailers in 2012 and beyond. The show was a tremendous success for the Wavelink team, as we were constantly busy showing voice-enabled applications with Speakeasy, smart device management with Avalanche, and the introduction of Velocity, which we believe will usher in the next generation of mobile web applications. In addition to the interest in our products, it was GREAT to see the sea of blue Wavelink scarves roaming the aisles! We even got Miss America in one (picture below)!

We were able to get some pictures (after the break) from the show, and we hope you enjoy them. If you have any pictures of your own you’d like to share, feel free to let us know in the comments, or even on our Facebook page.

Worry-Free Mobile Device Management and a New Video

September 14, 2010

Today we announced our new offering of Avalanche Managed Services. I won’t go into too much detail, but we now provide a fully functioning mobile device management solution to organizations that may not have the resources available to proactively monitor and manage the wireless ecosystem on a 24×7 basis. We’ve leveraged Avalanche, and have created a solution that gives subscribers peace of mind knowing their enterprise is securely and efficiently being managed, without them ever needing to lift a finger. In essence, we do all the work. We’re also hosting a live, free Webinar to introduce the new offering on Thursday.

To continue to the Managed Services topic, VDC recently had an interesting write-up on Managed Services in the mobility space, specifically looking at Intel and McAfee. The write-up has some pretty astounding figures in terms of grown within the space. Check it out and tell us what you think.

Finally, I found a new Avalanche video produced by our friends at Datalogic Mobile via their Facebook page this morning. Stop by and see what a nice good they did!

30% Growth In Rugged Computer Market?

August 5, 2010

This article from InformationWeek should make all of our device manufacturer friends out there happy. David Krebs, one of the most respected voices in the industry, with VDC Research is projecting solid growth in ruggedized handheld computers across the globe, and especially in Europe.

One of the items in the piece of particular interest is the expected increase in “beyond the fence” devices. As Mr. Krebs points out, “The real growth driver for rugged handheld devices continues to be with the ‘beyond the fence’ field mobile workers, which is the least-penetrated market segment and is only now beginning to see the benefits of making certain processes mobile.”

I know our readers cover a broad base of industries, so what do you think about Mr. Krebs thoughts on “beyond the fence” mobility?

A Quick Look at the Datalogic Elf (With Pictures!)

May 20, 2010

The Social Media realm has been abuzz with news about the Datalogic Elf, so I decided to get my hands on one, because as I must admit, I also thought it looked pretty cool. Our engineers and QA folks are the ones who usually have the chance to handle and test our software on new hardware, but I figured I’d head over to their department and see if I could borrow one. The guys were more than willing to loan me one so I could snap a few pictures and give a few observations.

Here are a few of the more interesting features (to me):

– It looks like a ruggedized mobile phone

– It’s UI looks very similar to many new cell phones and the screen is larger than I expected (it uses the Windows Mobile 6.5 OS)

– Having used a Blackberry and iPhone, I easily picked up on how to navigate to different apps with the flick of a finger

– There are lights at the top of the device which show you the current keyboard function (this was especially convenient for me while using the keyboard and knowing which function I was in)

– It has a built-in camera (further adding to the ruggedized mobile phone feel)

– Dedicated “Talk” button for push-to-talk applications

Overall, it really is a pretty sleek device and I can see how it would be a very useful for someone working outside of the four walls; it’s relatively light, compact, and easy to carry around… kind of like a beefed up cell phone.
